Caring doesn't cost yet the rewards can be invaluable. Be selfish, say yes to helping others.

On My Mind

Many topics are on my mind and some have been around for longer than others. Running as a prospective councillor gave me an opportunity to express my views on some of the problems I saw and heard when I walk around the ward and spoke with other residents.

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”

Aristotle

“Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character.”

T. Alan Armstrong

THE CUSTOMER IS KING

"The thing that lies at the foundation of positive change, the way I see it, is service to a fellow human being."

Lech Walesa

A satisfied customer is the best business strategy of all.

Michael LeBoeuf

Whatever topics I mention on this site the major subject that concentrates my mind is the delivery of services by the council to the resident (the customer).

A customer is the most important visitor to council premises. Even though for many things he may be dependent on the council, the council is dependent on him.

A customer is not an interruption to council work; he is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider to the council, he is part of it. The council is not doing him a favour by serving him; he is doing the council a favour by giving the council an opportunity to do so.

A resident of Southwark pays money through council tax and may also pay rent through social housing. These monies paid by the resident to the council are used to pay for council services and also to pay the council's employees; therefore, without the resident the council employees would not get paid.

One of the greatest failures in service delivery is that employees tend to forget that it is not the employer who pays their wages, it is the customer. Most employees never even consider this.

Head in the Clouds

"And he gave it for his opinion, that whoever could make two ears of corn, or two blades of grass, to grow upon a spot of ground where only one grew before, would deserve better of mankind, and do more essential service to his country, than the whole race of politicians put together."

Jonathan Swift

Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of an intelligent effort

John Ruskin.

Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify!

Henry David Thoreau

"You can start right where you stand and apply the habit of going the extra mile by rendering more service and better service than you are now being paid for."

Napoleon Hill

Only a life lived in the service to others is worth living.

Albert Einstein

Customer Satisfaction

"I am not influenced by the expectation of promotion or pecuniary reward. I wish to be useful, and every kind of service necessary for the public good, becomes honorable by being necessary."

Nathan Hale

"We owe it to our ancestors to preserve entire those rights they have delivered to our care. We owe it to our posterity not to suffer their dearest inheritance to be destroyed."

Junius
